Barryroe 1-2-8 (15) Castlehaven 1-0-6 (9)
Barryroe recorded a solid win in their opening football championship fixture against a well-organised and determined Castlehaven on Sunday evening last in Ardfield. Although Barryroe opened the scoring with a fine effort from Luke Murphy, it was Castlehaven who controlled the early proceedings and led 1-02 to 0-01 with ten minutes elapsed. A booming effort from the impressive Mark Crowley was the catalyst for a period of dominance for the light blues. A Luke Murphy major on 24', quickly followed by Ryan's opening score on 25', and a two-point effort again by Ryan on 30' all resulted in Barryroe retiring at the short whistle, leading 1-1-4 (9) to 1-0-3 (6).
A quickfire double by Brian O'Donovan and Adam McSweeney increased Barryroe's advantage in the second period. With scores at a premium, Barryroe managed the game well, and it was Olan O'Donovan who came to the fore in the concluding stages, registering two fine efforts from play, one two-pointer from a free. Barryroe running deserved winners 1-2-8 (15) to Castlehaven 1-0-6 (9).
Congratulations to the team and management on a fine performance. A special well done to our three debutants, Aaron Fleming, Dermot Dineen, and Luke Murphy, who all performed admirably and were instrumental in a well-rounded performance.
