Ibane were defeated in the Minor B County Hurling Final by Kanturk played in Cloughduv. This was another heartbreaking defeat for this set of players coming a week after losing the Football Final by a point as well. However on the night Kanturk were just that bit better than Ibane and we can have no major complaints. Kanturk started the better and were 2 points to the good before Ibane got on the scoreboard , Kanturk held the upper hand in the1st half and were well on top in midfield and in their half back line, it took great defending from the Ibane backs to keep the scoreline down but as the half time whistle blew it was Kanturk 0-06 Ibane 0-04. Ibane started the 2nd half better and by the 40th minute were ahead by a point 0-07 to 0-06 Kanturk levelled and then a Mark Crowley goal put Ibane up 1-07 to 0-07 ahead and we were going well but Kanturk really upped their game and got 5 points in a row, time was running out and Ibane were 2 behind and needed a goal but try as they might they were unable to get it their only consolation being a late point . It was a dissappointing end to the season for the lads but they can hold their heads up high as they lost nothing in defeat and gave their supporters a lot of joy during the year. The team was a pleasure to be involved with and their attitude to training was top class and we can expect to see most of them playing with their respective adult teams in the next few years.
