Sunday 16 Mar 2014U18 Camogie - League

Barryroe, 16:00PM

With the Cork selectors not allowing our intercounty players , Maebhdh Sexton and Claire Sexton to line out, we were always going to be stretched for this league game. Caroline McCarthy tool over in goals and although she proceeded to play well, she was missed out the field. Marie Dineen equilized the visitors opening point, but Bishopstown added 1-1 within two minutes and indeed could have been further ahead but for a fine Caroline McCarthy save. Rachel Sheehy had a point, quickly cancelled out by the visitors before Barryroe forced home a goal. It looked like the teams would be level at the  break, as two Bishiopstown points, were answered by an Alice Cooper goal. The visitors however had the last word just before the break, when a further goal game them a 2-5 to 2-2 lead at the internal.

Bishopstown increased their advantage on eight minutes while Rachel Sheehy traded points with the city side before Alice goaled again on 15 minutes. Marie Dineen cancelled out a Bishopstown point and as the pressure mounted on us, Caroline McCarthy produced a great double save. We were now just two points down, with some twenty minutes gone, but injuries began to take their toll. Rachel McCarthy pulled a leg muscle and Sally Smyth suffered a hand injury. With a thin panel and time almost up, we were unable to pull back a strong Bishopstown outfit.

A six point loss, but the selectors will be happy enough with a game display in our first outing of the season.
