Ibane Gaels 1-04 Castletownbere 2-14

Well, at least we had home advantage today, Castletownbere came in numbers, unfortunately for Ibane, some of our injured girls were unable to play – Naomi & Megan and others had camogie commitments to fulfil so we were down to 12. This was our full squad up against a squad of 18. It was going to be hard no matter what as most of the girls had played in Feile competitions on Saturday. Castletowbere started off strong and converted a few points before we managed to get our first point from a free.  This was followed by some super play from midfield from Eva, Sinead & Claire to get the ball up to Ciara, Caoimhe and then into Holly who kicked it over to keep us in the game, this was followed with a great point from Sinead. Now it has to be said that Mira who had come to make her debut appearance in U14 had a fantastic game in the backs and put in a super display alongside Chloe and they fought for every ball that came their way. Sarah Harrington had a great game in goal and had some great saves helped by her back line of Isobel & Hannah. Half time score  2-05-0-03.

Second half started with Castletowbere bringing on fresh legs. This was to be the difference as our girls were doing their best to keep up with them. But keep up to them we did and whilst they scored points, no more goals were to get passed our super backs and goalie Sarah.  Eva went on a run from midfield and scored a super point. Caoimhe Dowling did great in keeping her marker from scoring and managed a number of great clearances. But score they did as nobody could stop the points. Again Ibane showed great strength and have got stronger as a team and continued to fight for possession and were unlucky not to score again with a shot from Rebecca. In the final minutes of the game, Sinead was awarded a penalty and she duly found the back of the net. Final score 2-14 to 1-04.

Home to soak the weary bones and put the feet up for a little while and a bit of TLC.  Poor Paul will have no voice left by tomorrow afternoon!
