Game 1 Barryroe 2-00 Inniscarra 0-00

Game 2 Barryroe 2-07 Sarsfields 0-00

Game 3 Barryroe 3-01 Aghabullogue 0-00

This was the second year Barryroe took part in this blitz. Having won the Irene O’Keeffe Shield last year, Barryroe were determined to retain if for another year.

The weather was lovely and playing conditions were ideal for the matches. A great team effort and outstanding performances from all of our girls. They fought for every ball which resulted in not conceding any scores.

Game 1 – The opening score came from Holly Collins a great goal. Great hooking by Nicole Sweetnam in this half. Also, great effort from Alannah Sexton and Cliona O’Brien in setting up scores in the forward line. The second half opened with another great goal, this time it was Ciardha McCarthy. Alison McCarthy and Mia O’Driscoll were working hard to keep a clean sheet.

Game 2 – This game opened with a lovely point from Esther Scallan-Dowd followed by a goal and a point from Ellen O’Riordan. The second half opened with Esther again pointing from play. A great puck out from Emma Collins found her sister, Holly, who made a lovely turn to raise another white flag. Next, Esther was again on target with a point. Tara Fleming won a free and despite receiving an injury to her thumb still went on to score a point. Madelein McCarthy was next to put her name on the score sheet, a super goal. Esther was on fire, scoring another point to close the game.

Game 3 – The Final. The girls chased every ball. Lucy O’Flynn was making relieving clearances in the backline. It was all square at half time. The second half opened with Esther having to remove the sole of her football boot which did not deter her performance. Madelein scored two goals in quick succession. This followed by a great point from Holly. In the last attack, it was Madelein who went on to complete her hat trick to secure the win.

Irene O’Keeffe (former Cork Camogie player) was on hand to present the Shield to our team captain Holly Collins. Thanks to Inniscarra Camogie Club for organizing the blitz and for the refreshments in the hall. Afterwards, we did a quick tour of the parish to celebrate the win. All went home happy with smiles on their faces, it was a good day out.
