Bandon guards are on the hunt for twenty suspects known to be from the Barryroe area after an audacious smash and grab in a sunny and windy Charlie Hurley park this afternoon. The victims - Ballygarvan - are still reeling in disbelief at the manner of thier shakedown.
When Donal Ó Buachalla punished a wayward Ballygarvan restart in the 17th minute Barryroe led for the first time 1-07 to 1-06 which capped off a flurry of scores in a five minute spell, all of which was instigated by an Olan O'Donovan 70m free which went all the way to the net in the 12th minute. Ballygarvan regrouped and continued to edge proceedings until some late drama in injury time. Barryroe tied up the contest in the 60th minute when Barryroe netminder Micheal Whelton sent his penalty over the bar to tie the contest 1-19 apeice. Ballygarvan immediately responded and when they converted a 64th free to lead by two points it had seemed that men of Barryroe's efforts would come up short. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and when the excellent Olan O'Donovan stood over a 40m free with seemingly the last play of the game he cleverly switched the point of attack and found Adam McSweeney with the freedom of Charlie Hurley Park who picked his spot from 25m to send the large number of Barryroe supporters into raptures on the bank, Barryroe securing the vital win 2-19 to 1-21 in one of our best hurling performances in a number of years. Well done to all concerned.
