Junior Camogie v Inniscarra

25 August, 2023

Barryroe Junior B Camogie team got their championship campaign off to a flying start on Tuesday evening last when they played host to Inniscarra in close to ideal conditions on excellently maintained home turf. This was a very entertaining and highly spirited game of camogie from the throw in with Barryroe determined to make amends for the loss they suffered to Inniscarra in their earlier league campaign. Within the first few minutes Róisín Ní Bhuachalla had the ball in the back of the Inniscarra net and this was quickly followed by a superbly taken point by Ellen O’Riordan. On the other end of the pitch the backs had their hands full with a lively Inniscarra forward line but some great defending from Ali McCarthy, Sinéad Walsh and Tara Fleming was giving them plenty cause for concern. 2 points from frees and a lucky goal from another free along with 2 points from play meant Inniscarra were still proving a threat, but well taken points from Rebecca McCarthy and another from Ellen O’Riordan kept the game in balance. The biggest threat for Barryroe however was coming from Inniscarra’s midfield duo and it took trojan work and excellent support play to keep them at bay. Barryroe finished the stronger with Róisín Ní Bhuachalla on hand with a point and a fantastically worked goal leaving the half time score at 2-04 to 1-04, and still all to play for.

To their credit Barryroe again laid down their mark early in the second half with Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla solid between the posts and Méabh O’Sullivan and Sarah Harte continuing to work hard out field. Another point from Ellen O’Riordan helped settle the home team before Hannah Whelton who was threatening all evening rattled the back of the net for a well-deserved goal. 2 pointed frees and a goal from a penalty for Inniscarra brought the deficit down to just 1 goal midway through the 2nd half. However, Barryroe were determined not to let this one pass them by and with the help of fresh legs from the bench they raised their game with further points from Ellen O’Riordan and Róisín Ní Bhuachalla before Hannah Whelton once again struck for goal. Barryroe concluded the game with further points from Róisín Ní Bhuachalla and substitute Clodagh Moloney to finish on a score line of 4-09 to 2-06.

Next up Barryroe are away to Aghabullogue on Wednesday 30th @ 7pm. All support is greatly appreciated.
