Camogie secure U13 title

All roads led to Ahiohill on Tuesday evening for the much awaited U13 West Cork final between Kilbrittain/Timoleague and Barryroe.
Having played each other earlier on in the competition both sides knew it was going to be a very tough game. Both teams were ready to go to battle and from the minute the sliotar was thrown in, it was all systems go. A point from our captain Fiona was the first score on the board, this was followed by 3 more points one each Aoife Harte, Fiona & Eabha before Kilbrittain/Timoleague got their first point. It was a very fast paced game and the girls on both sides gave it everything. A goal from Niamh was followed by 2 goals from the opposition before Megan O'Regan batted the ball into the net before half time followed by a point from Kate just before half time gave Barryroe a slim advantage of 3 points. Nothing more than a puck of a ball separated them.
The girls knew it wasn't going to be an easy second half and with a few wise words from their coaches at half time, they took to the field again for 30 minutes and hoped they could maintain or extend their advantage.
Kilbrittain/Timoleague scored first with a quick point but this was swiftly followed by 2 great points from Fiona. Some great passing between our midfielders Kate, Aoife Harte & Eabha and the forwards Megan O'Regan, Ellen, Juliet, Fiona, Niamh,ensured Niamh got the sliotar and got a goal to give us a little bit of breathing room. But Kilbrittain/Timoleague put up a huge fight and weren't giving up, it was our fantastic backs Marianne, Aibhlin, Lily, Sophie, Mairead, Aoife Walsh and Clodagh, and our super goalie Lucy McC that kept them from scoring another goal towards the end. Fiona tipped over another point and Kate found the back of the net before the final score of the night came from Kilbrittain/Timoleague with a point. Final score 4-8-2-4.

Well earned pizzas and refreshments were had back home in Barryroe pitch before we called it a night as some of the girls had to finish their homework before school tomorrow. Hopefully the teachers will go easy on them.
