Divison 1 Football League Winners!
A huge well done to our Junior footballers on claiming the Carbery Group Carbery Beara Football League Division 1 title last night in Clonakilty, beating Kilmeen on a score of 2-14 to 1-06.
Conditions were unforgiving and far from what you'd expect for June, but the show must go on, and it was our lads who opened the scoring via a well-worked Seán Holland point after 2 minutes. Five minutes later, Kilmeen responded with a goal to take an early lead.
Scores were hard-earned due to the harsh elements and, 7 minutes later, Ryan O'Donovan levelled the game with a well-taken 2-pointed free just outside the arch off the ground. From this point on, Barryroe took control of the game. Tomás Ó Buachalla and Seán Holland added points immediately after Ryan's 2-pointer, making the score Barryroe 0-05 Kilmeen 1-00 after 16 minutes.
Barryroe skipper Olan O'Donovan opened his account at the 20-minute mark with a point from play, shortly followed by a brilliantly taken goal on 23 minutes. Some quick thinking from Ryan led to a crafty assist for Barryroe's opening goal, which was clinically put away by Olan. Another Seán Holland point, followed by a couple of Kilmeen scores, culminated in a half-time score of Barryroe 1-07 Kilmeen 1-03.
Kilmeen opened the scoring in the second half, which Seán Holland shortly responded to with a point of his own. The O'Donovan duo of Ryan and Olan added further scores and, after 40 minutes, it was Barryroe 1-10 Kilmeen 1-05.
Seán Holland raised his 5th white flag of the evening on the 42nd-minute mark, and this was swiftly followed by an outstanding outside-of-the-boot 2-pointer from Ryan O'Donovan.
Ryan wasn't done making his mark on the game as he converted a penalty after 45 minutes, putting Barryroe comfortably ahead on a score of 2-13 to 1-05.
Substitute Gearoid Holland had the final say, curling over a superbly taken point off the left peg on the 60th minute.
The final score finished Barryroe 2-14 Kilmeen 1-06.
