Páirc Uí Mhurchú hosted the finals of the hurling parish leagues for 2026 on Saturday, 19th September. A format which lay dormant for many years has roared back to life thanks to the skill, heart and vigour of the young boys of the parish.

The U7 boys got proceedings underway, with Trá Beag (light grey) winning 3 -0 over their Travarra (black and amber) counterparts. Attention quickly shifted to the older boys, and first up in the third-place play-off, Dunworley (dark blue) went down to Barryscove (yellow & blue) in a high-scoring 9-7 win. On to the main event, where it was the battle of the 'strands': Blindstrand (red) versus Broadstrand (green). With Broadstrand seemingly coasting to victory, Blindstrand showed unbelievable heart and pulled out all the stops coming down the home stretch, reducing the margin to the minimum. One final Blindstrand attack was snuffed out by some great Broadstrand defending, and a breakaway score on the final whistle meant they ran out deserving winners 6-4.

• A special well done to all the boys who took part in this competition over the past month or so, giving great entertainment with their skill and determination on show every week. Their hurling has improved no end. Keep up the practice lads!

• To all who assisted every week with refereeing, score taking, washing jerseys, setting out pitches, and Pat Lawton, who refereed our finals day - a massive thank you from Barryroe GAA Club.
• To the parents who continue to ferry the boys back and forth to the club grounds and for your words of encouragement from the sidelines.
• To Tim Carroll for coordinating activities every week and making sure the competition ran like clockwork.
• To all who donated, organised and managed the catering today. Thank you for your generosity.
