Barryroe GAA Complex Fundraiser 2026
To members, supporters, former players, friends and the community of Barryroe and surrounding areas.
Gaelic games continue to thrive in the community of Barryroe as more boys, girls, men and women play our games and use our facilities at Páirc Uí Mhurchú than ever before. We are proud that it serves as a gathering place for all generations, where lasting memories are made, and community spirit shines. In 2020, we held a Capital Fundraiser to carry out essential development works. A lot has happened since then.
Off the field, we completed the drainage on the main pitch & the LED-lit perimeter walkway in 2020. In 2022, we installed solar panels and batteries supporting a more sustainable future. In 2023, we extended our ball alley, adding precast concrete walls.
On the field, Barryroe footballers won a historic first West Cork title in 2023. Barryroe Camogie claimed County & Munster titles in 2025. Ibane Gaels excelled, with U21 A West Cork titles in 2022 (H&F), 2025 (F) and 2026 (H), reaching the County A Football Final in 2025. Ibane Ladies Footballers also delivered silverware, bringing home their first adult county title in 2023. Our Underage teams have had remarkable success with titles across all codes, culminating in numerous young players representing Cork, a source of great pride for our small community.
As you can see our clubs and community are thriving, so we must continue to improve our facilities. Whilst Sports Capital funding is critical to undertaking development works, they do not cover all costs, so we are now appealing to all our friends far and near to contribute towards the completion of our essential Capital Projects:
- Pitch 2 was purchased via a 15-year loan in 2017, seeded primarily as a training field. It has been a huge benefit to the community across our 4 clubs.
- Works began in August 2025 to upgrade this pitch. This involves raising the level at one end by 3 meters, completely levelling the playing field, putting in a state-of-the-art drainage system, and putting in full-sized ball netting, extending the complex car park and reinstating the 900-meter walkway around the grounds.
- We have also built a new stand facing onto Pitch 1 and the adjoining footpath, already proving to be a very popular viewing point. This new stand also facilitates adding a 2nd wall ball facing onto Pitch 2.
The completion of the above projects will mean that the club must raise in excess of €100,000. As our 2020 six-year lotto tickets are now expiring, we are once again appealing for one-off voluntary contributions from the public in units of €500. In return for each unit contributed, the club will give the contributors a free Barryroe GAA lottery ticket for the next six years. This ticket is worth €540. Contributions are to be received by 11th December 2026, and all lotto tickets will be entered into our new simplified lotto from 1st January 2027, with a guaranteed €5,000 January jackpot.
We acknowledge the incredible support from the community at our recent Grounds Development Golf Classic, a day of great pride and comradery in our parish & clubs.
We appreciate that this is a lot of money to contribute, but we believe providing 2 full-sized, fully drained pitches will be of huge benefit to our community and clubs for generations to come, serving participants across Hurling, Camogie, Ladies Football, Gaelic Football, underage development, playground activities, walkers/fitness and community events such as the Annual Barryroe Show, etc.
