Clonakilty NOTE CHANGE OF DATE, 19:30PM

A large crowd turned up in Clonakilty for this Intermediate hurling match, perhaps with memories of the great games down the years  on their minds. Alas, it was not to be.

Within a minute, Timoleague were a point up and they had increased that to 8pts by the 20th minute, before a long range free from Tadgh Harrington opened the Blues account. Kieran Griffin added two more Barryroe points, but Arigideen countered with three more and a Kieran Griffin free left the half time score at 11pts to 4.

Timoleague had the first two points of the second half, Dave O'Sullivan had a Barryroe point, but four on the trot from Timoleague, left them 17-5 ahead.

Twelve minutes in, saw a mini Barryroe fight back. Kieran Griffin, Tadgh Harrington and Griffin again pointed,  Billy O'Donovan made a fine save in the Blues goal and we made a great goal chance at the other end.  Unfortunately, a rush of blood meant the ball was struck too early and too high and the Timoleague keeper saved easily.

That signalled the end of the Barryroe challenge. 17 points to 8 down, Barryroe did outscore Timoleague in the last ten minutes, 1-1 to two points. Mikey Brien had a point and Kieran Griffin's last minute free found the Timoleague net, but it was much too little too late.

It was hard to know what to make of this game, Timoleague were well on top, easily winning the physical encounters, and winning the breaking ball, but Barryroe are better than they showed tonight.

Tough times ahead though in the coming back door game.

Some pictures from the game.

Aerial battle, with Timoleague ready to pick up the brealing ball.

Determination on Tadgh's face.

Taking a tumble in the box.

Jason going high.

Tadgh's late free clears the bar.
