Tuesday 23 Sep 2014Ibane Minor Hurling - County Semi Final

Páirc Uí Rinn, 18:30PM

Ibane Gaels 2-12 Eire Og 4-11

Ibane lost nothing in defeat  to Eire Og in the Minor A Hurling county semi-final. Ibane went into   this game at Pairc Ui Rinn as complete outsiders but it was Eire Og who were happy to hear the final whistle as Ibane had laid siege to their goal in the final 5 minutes but unfortunately the goal Ibane wanted never came. Ibane started well and led by a goal to 0-00 when Sean Holland tapped home from close range.  Ibane were on top but missed a few chances to stretch their lead.  However with Darragh O Donovan and Ted Kearney  getting some lovely scores,  by  the 15th minute we were leading 1-03 to 0-02 when Eire Og got their 1st goal. We were again playing the better hurling but a 2nd Eire Og goal allowed them to lead at half time 2-04 to 1-06. The scores seemed to come a bit easier to Eire Og in the 2nd half and their ability to get goals was crucial as 2 in quick sucession midway through the half left Ibane fighting an uphill battle.  Ibane refused to give up and a goal from Killian Lawton and points from Cathal and Ted brought it down to a 5 point game and  Ibane were unlucky not to get another goal as it took great defending to keep Ibane out.  The game ended Eire Og 4-11 Ibane 2-12. Ibane mentors and supporters were well proud of their team who despite losing and starting without 1 of their main players, Eoin Lawton, pushed Eire Og all the way. This was a great experience for the lads playing in a county semi-final in Pairc Ui Rinn and it bound to be of benefit to them in the years ahead.
