Barryroe, 19:00PM

Barryroe overcame a Carrigtwohill selection in a sunny Barryroe tonight. We were not too sure what to expect as the visitors were bolstered by some Castlelyons players, but aided by the wind, we started well. Rebecca McCarthy had an early point and Rachel Sheehy doubled the lead, before the visitors opened their account with a point. Rachel Sheehy goaled after eighteen minutes and added a point, three minutes later, before a second Carrigtwohill point left Barryroe leading by 1-03 to 0-02. The score remained unchanged until the break and we wondered if it would be enough as we now were facing a strong breeze.

We need not have worried as the home side took complete charge in the second half. Rachel Sheehy pointed after three minutes, then two quick goals from Hannah Whelton in the fifth and eight minutes, finished the game as a contest. Rachel Sheehy had a point, the visitors replied with a point of their own, before Maebhdh Sexton had one of the scores of the game, with a fine long range effort. It must be said that Maebhdh was again one of our best players and she is really flying since moving away from the confines of goal.

It was now 3-06 to 0-03, six minutes it was 3-10 to 0-04, as Hannah Whelton rattled off four points, Rachel Sheehy had one before Carrig got their fouth point of the match. A consolation goal for the visitors, was sandwiched by a brace from Hannah Whelton and the Blues won, pulling up, by 3-14 to 1-04.

A great display overall, but tougher tasks lie ahead.

Some match pictures.

Breaking out of defence.

Marie on to the breaking ball.

Out of my way.

A full blooded clearance.

Keeping your eye on the ball.

Glued to the stick.

Point coming up.

All smiles.
