Report for U16 County Championship ¼ Final game V Erins Own

Sunday 04th October @ 1pm in Caherlag, Glounthaune

Trainer: Batt Whelton Assisted by: James Tobin, Pat Tobin, Pat Whelton

Erins Own 4-1 Barryroe 3-5

We had previously met Erins Own in the league and had come away comfortable winners but this time it was a completely different game, it was practically score for score. It took the Barryroe girls a few minutes to settle into the game. The first half opening scores were a point, followed by a goal from Erins Own. Barryroe replied with two great goals, one from Kate Whelton and the other from Grace Tobin. Erins Own responded with a goal. Next Kate pointed from a free. Ciara O’Sullivan then pointed from play, bringing the half time score to Erins Own 2-1, Barryroe 2-2.

In the second half, we played with the wind. Our opponents opened this half with a goal but Kate worked hard to win possession and was rewarded by scoring a goal and also pointing from a free. But the East Cork girls replied again with a goal. We were now one point down with 7 minutes to go. But by sheer determination, the Barryroe girls dug deep and sent the ball into Ciara who pointed to level the match. In the dying minutes, Ciara again went onto score the winning point to secure a victory.

Roisin Dullea’s first touch, interceptions, catching and blocking were superb throughout the game. Compliments to Erins Own for providing refreshments afterwards.
